Orthodox Mysteries

Orthodox Mysteries, also known as sacraments, are sacred rituals instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, believed to convey divine grace and spiritual blessings to the faithful. The Orthodox Church recognizes seven primary mysteries: baptism, chrismation, Eucharist, penance, anointing of the sick, marriage, and holy orders. Each mystery is a visible sign of an invisible reality, serving as a means of encountering God's presence and participating in the life of Christ and His Church. Through the mysteries, believers are initiated into the Body of Christ, nourished spiritually, reconciled with God and one another, and empowered for service in the world. The Orthodox understanding of the mysteries emphasizes their efficacy not only as symbols but as tangible channels of God's grace, transforming individuals and communities and uniting them with the divine life. Participation in the mysteries requires faith, repentance, and a disposition of openness to God's work in one's life, leading to spiritual growth, healing, and communion with God and His people.

We have a few great resources on the sacraments. Here's one talking more in-depth about each of the sacraments.
